Second Semester Reflextion
I don't think it would be much of a leap to say the work I did this semester vastly outclassed anything I did last semester. To start the new year off strong, after being out sick for a week, I wrote 3 stories in roughly 6-8 weeks. One covered the graffiti in the boys bathroom, and included photos. The second was all about the creative writing elective taught by Lori, and being able to feature some of the classes' fiction stories in the quill. The third for the life of me I can't find or remember. I am 100% sure I wrote a third story, I just have no idea what that story might be.
My momentum died pretty quickly as senior project really started getting underway, along with increased work loads in creative writing. I wrote more in the last semester than I think I did all of the last 2, maybe 3 years. It was a weekly experience for me to suffer from writer's block. Even now each word is a dagger, each sentence a gunshot, a paragraph full blown execution. To keep it brief because I don't have many more words left in me, the other things I did for the quill were help interview new candidates for the Humanities job, and write a crap load of world news Hykius.

Work
Description: I put together a brief piece of writing, and worked to get the best short stories written in Lori's creative writing class into the quills publication.
Through the first two months of 2022, students in Animas High School’s creative writing elective have worked on and now completed short stories. These stories were the first project of the semester for the class. When asked why short stories, veteran humanities teacher Lori Fisher responded “I think short stories are seen as the pinnacle of literary writing.” The stories set a precedent of refined, and excellent work. As not confined to one genre, stories ranged from science fiction tales of space revolution, to epics of trauma healing through the embracing of nature. On the variety Lori remarked, “I was actually surprised by the variety, in past years we have not had that many… What really stood out to me beyond the genre diversity was the diversity of voice.” Celebrating the completion of most stories, the authors, on march 1st, and 2nd shared out paragraphs of their works in an interclass reading. Laughs were shared, and applause was earned after each paragraph. After weeks of hard work to craft a finished product Junior Nia Yazzie, a student in the class, said “I was like hella releavied.” The sentiment seemed to echo around the room as most students seemed glad to be done, while still being proud of the work they had done. Now in the aftermath of celebration the class is pivoting, to the study off, and writing of children's books. No doubt the quality of the work displayed with the short stories will continue on, and into this new project.
Description: Early in the semester when the anti Shaun sentiment was at its highest some graffiti was written in the mens bathroom. Along with covering the vandalism I also interviewed a fellow student who turned it into art.
Push back to the firing of teacher Roxy at Animas High School has been intense among the student community. Tuesday, February 1th, an unknown individual painted the words “Dear Sean, on behalf of all AHS students we politely request that you eat the fattest, juiciest dick known to man.” In the boys bathroom. Without hesitation Senior Gavin Davis took initiative, “I just thought it was rude and unasiaray… whether or not you're angry at Sean it's not nice.”
Succuring paint, and brushes he sacrificed his lunch time to cover over the graffiti, “I don't feel like we need to be upset at anybody at school at all… leaving a note like that is not going to change anything.” In its place now flys a Osprey. When asked his inspiration for the osprey Gavin responded, “I felt like at Animas everybody tries to be the osprey, and we are kind of moving away from that,” Adding “This was not very osprey-like.” Actions like this graffiti serve not, but to divide the Animas Community. Turning administration against the students, and students against the administration. While the anger is understandable the actions are not. Students must find a better way to protest.
Description: One of my favorite parts of the journalism elective is the opportunity to write world news hykius. These are pieces of poetry that deal with world wide news. It should be noted that most if not all of these will be outdated.
