My 2021 Link Experience
During the second semester, junior students at Animas seek out and find internships. This marks the beginning of a three week period were school shifts into a more real life work experience through our internships. For my internship, I interned at Maria's Bookshop in Durango, Colorado. Maria's is the pinnacle of local bookstore, standing strong in the face of Amazon, and dominates the book market in Durango. With its friendly environment, and truly incredible staff members, Maria's sets up a fantastic customer experience with all the reasons to remember the shop and to come back again. For my part as an intern, I had the opportunity to learn a lot about the goings-on in the shop, the process of buying and stocking new books, and the store's connection to local authors. Of these three, while learning and talking to local authors was life grounding, learning about the goings-on in the shop was my favorite part of the experience. Coming into work every day my strengths included my strong work ethic, and ability to learn in the face of new experiences. While my biggest challenge was without a doubt customer interaction. This experience, even with struggles, was indescribable in how incredible it was, and if you are ever in Durango Colorado stop by and grab a book down at Maria's. https://www.mariasbookshop.com/ (This is a link to Maria's Bookshops website.)
